Turkish hackers hijacked several major websites and redirected visitors to a page that claimed it was “World Hackers’ Day.”<\/span><\/h2>\n

<\/span>Vodafone and The Daily Telegraph were among the companies targeted in the attack, claimed by a group that called itself TurkGuvenligi, which translates as \u2018Turkish Security\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

The group had not infiltrated the websites but the DNS servers, or online \u2018phone books\u2019, operated by NetNames, which are used to direct computers to the correct web page.<\/p>\n

Visitors to affected websites on Sunday were directed to a page that declared: \u2018Hacking is not a crime.\u2019<\/p>\n

On its Twitter feed, the group, which has claimed several attacks since 2008, said it carried out the attack \u2018just for fun\u2019. <\/p>\n

Graham Cluley, of security firm Sophos, said: \u2018I think these guys are basically showing off that this was possible and highlighting that whoever controlled the entries for these websites was not keeping them properly secured.\u2019<\/p>\n
