Presentation of “The Best in the Net” guidebook for online journalists was held on Monday, December 23 at “Erebuni Plaza” business center, Yerevan. The guidebook has been developed by the Journalists for the Future NGO with the support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
It provides both with theoretical and practical knowledge on how to implement high-quality media activity in the Internet and to properly organize information security.
The book consists of six parts. It represents the impact of convergent journalism on the provision of information, discusses the journalist’s role in the digital era and delivers new online formats of providing news.
“The guidebook covers also a detailed review on the boundaries of freedom of expression and the protection of copyright on the Internet. These are the topics which have been actively discussed during the whole year,” says Suren Deheryan, co-author and the executive editor of the guidebook.
“We expect the guidebook will have an applicable significance both for the functioning journalists and for the students as it is a working tool to be used in everyday work.”

Co-authors of the guidebook are also Liana Sayadyan, deputy editor of “Hetq” online publication, lawyers Ara Ghazaryan and Gevorg Hayrapetyan as well as expert on information security Samvel Martirosyan. Designed by Hrach Shahverdyan.
The workshop was attended also by Oliver McCoy, Democratization Programme Officer at the OSCE Office. In his opening speech McCoy said, “I wish to thank Mr. Deheryan and the ‘Journalists for the Future’ NGO for putting this publication together. As the media landscape on the Internet is in a constant state of evolution, tools like this guidebook are necessary for today’s journalists to keep pace both now and into the future.”
By this event JFF concluded the “Online Media Self-regulation in Armenia” project. A two-day workshop on the “Issues and Challenges of Online Media in Armenia” as well as a conference entitled as “Copyright Issues in Armenian Online Media: Legislation and Self-regulation” were organized within the framework of this project. The working group which was created as part of the project studied and made suggestions in regard with the RA Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights circulated in the National Assembly this year and adopted unanimously on September 30.
