Attack against the journalist has been condemned also by leaders of opposition parties. And the political unit led by the RA First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan was doubtful that Kiviryan’s case like other cases of violence against journalists in the past would ever be disclosed.

Argishti Kiviryan has been living in Yerevan since 1993. He was born in Gagra region of Abkhazia, and took secondary, then higher education of lawyer in Sochi. Moving to Armenia Kiviryan was actively engaged in journalism. He has worked for the newspapers Golos Armenii, for the news agencies SNARK and Regnum. Now he works for ARMENIA Today and Bagin.info news agencies. The last covers mainly issues related to Armenian population of Somtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia.

Kiviryan’s wife Lusine Sahakyan is a defense lawyer for the oppositionists, RA former deputy prosecutor general Gagik Jhangiryan and his brother Vardan Jhangiryan. And Kiviryan’s sister is Armenika Kiviryan, the editor-in-chief of Transcaucasian office of IA Regnum News Agency. Kiviryan in Press Lusine Sahakyan, Argishti Kiviryan’s wife, told A1Plus that the investigators engaged in the case have already been in the hospital. But Sahakyan informed the same periodical that initiation of proceedings according to Article 117 (causing intentional light injury) causes contradicting suppositions.

“This fact annoys us very much and makes consider that the investigation has been mismanaged from the very beginning. It is obvious that Kiviryan was planned to be killed and the case should have been initiated according to the characteristics of attempted murder and not according to Article 117,” Kiviryan’s wife told A1Plus. She mentioned that several shots fortunately not harming her husband have followed the bats’ attack against Kiviryan. Citing the police website (www.police.am) A1Plus reported that the law enforcement agencies are still verifying the facts and conducting an expertise. The newspaper assured that the RA Police was unaware of the incident until the afternoon.

With this respect PanARMENIAN.Net website reports that seriously injured Kiviryan has been taken first to St. Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center, but the duty doctor has rejected to accept the patient telling that the head doctor was sleeping. According to the website after several unsuccessful attempts to awake the doctor, Kiviryan’s relatives have called an ambulance and the ambulance car has driven the 5-minute road during half an hour. The patient has been taken to Erebuni Medical Center. Meanwhile the relatives have contacted with the head of Erebuni Medical Center and arranged for Kiviryan be accepted and provided medical aid.
