Iranian journalist imprisoned for 16 months

In Iran, famous journalist Mashallah Shamsalvaezin is sentenced to 16-months imprisonment for offending the president of the country Mahmud Ahmadinejad and for “exploding the islamic regime”.

According to the journalist, “one year he recieved because of too many interviews to abroad media. And another four months were given for what he had said on “Al-Arabia”. He had declared that the president of Iran has too good opinion of himself”.

During 20 days the journalist can apeal the decision, says Associated Press.

Mashallah Shamsalvaezin is the president of the Journalists Union of Iran.
