Georgian Patriarch Called Georgian Public Broadcaster’s TV Program “Antistate”

During the sermon held on December 17 Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II called TV program titled “Dialogue with David Paitchadze” “a program pursuing antistate goals”, the TV program in question was aired by Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) on December 16.

David Paitchadze’s program was dedicated to a letter published in social networks according to which the Synod of Georgian Church plans to divide several eparchies and appoint new bishops during the meeting scheduled to take place in December. According to the authors of the letter, that move is connected with Patriarch’s nephew Batumi Archbishop Dimitri Shiolashvili’s wish to strengthen his positions in the Holy Synod in order to later take possession of Catholicos-Patriarch’s throne. Theologist Beka Mindiashvili and philosopher Giga Zedania took part in the abovementioned TV program.

Journalist David Paitchadze said that the goal of his program was to show various opinions and December 16 “Dialogue” was produced with that goal in mind.
