On December 20, 2010, the attorney of Haykakan Zhamanak daily jailed editor Nikol Pashinyan addressed a letter to Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan demanding to institute administrative proceedings over the recent incidents in the Kosh penitentiary institution.
“The Ministry received the letter on December 21 but I have received no answer to this day,” Vahe Grigoryan told A1+.
The attorney last met his client [Nikol Pashinyan] on December 30.
“Our meetings are not confidential as they are always attended by representatives of the penitentiary institution,” he said.
Asked how he viewed the appointment of Hrayr Tovmasyan as Justice Minister, Mr. Grigoryan said, “The response to the letter will show. The minister is not a Christmas tree to be assessed or admired.”
Nikol Pashinyan was sentenced to 7 years in prison for “organizing mass disorders” during the riots following the disputed presidential elections in 2008 that left ten people killed in downtown Yerevan.
