Kanal PIK aims

– to shine a light on one of the most fascinating and least understood corners of the world,

– to make the peoples of the northern and southern Caucasus part of the global information revolution,

– to provide all Caucasians with fast, accurate, objective and timely information about the events and stories that interest and concern them,

– to set new standards of journalism in the region.

Kanal PIK is NOT

– going to fight propaganda with propaganda

– going to engage in polemics with other media or governments

– going to pass judgment; we will provide viewers with the means to reach their own conclusions

– going to hide from controversy.

“We want to be the channel to watch if you really want to know what is happening in the Caucasus. To those who doubt us we have a simple reply: First watch and then make your judgment,”- says Robert Parsons, Director General of Kanal PIK

Kanal PIK aims to transform the regional media environment through a combination of fast, accurate and honest news, innovative web journalism and 4 hours of daily programming that will feature the best of Caucasian culture and highlight the daily grit of life in the region.

Kanal PIK will provide fast and comprehensive information on developments throughout the world and will have its own network of correspondents in Baku, Yerevan, Moscow, Kiev, Makhachkala, Ankara, Brussels, Washington, Vladikavkaz and Tehran.

Programming

“The icing on the cake of Kanal PIK will be its programming – four hours every night, of which half will be original material put together by its own team of skilled presenters and film-makers,- says Robert Parsons.- The channel will nurture programme – making skills across a wide genre of formats, including contemporary documentary, presenter – led historical and arts programming, controversial talk shows and studio – based magazine programmes.”

Web strategy

On Kanal PIK don’t expect the web to wait for TV. Every citizen will be a potential journalist, just one press of a button away from sharing a story or sending an image or a few seconds of video. And from our website, the information and the pictures will fly straight to our TV news team.

Our web page will give Caucasians the means to address the critical issues that concern them and affect their lives. It will become a forum, among other things, for ordinary people to hold their rulers to account. Kanal PIK web strategy is to make information a two-way process. On Kanal PIK most stories will originate from the web, not vice versa.

Management of Kanal PIK

To ensure that the highest international standards are met, Kanal PIK has turned to a team of four foreign journalists to lead the channel in is ambition to make the region a part of the 21st century information revolution.

In preparation for the launch on January 25th specialist trainers have been invited from the UK, Ukraine and Denmark but training at the channel will never stop – on the contrary, it will form a constant part of life at the channel.

“Kanal PIK is a Caucasian channel but it will not be parochial. We want to bring the world to the Caucasus and the Caucasus to the world.
