The book author Dan Gillmor (to the center) who is currently a professor of practice at the Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, thanked the US Embassy in Armenia and the Journalists For the Future NGO on the occasion of successful completion of translation.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:222:]]The US Embassy spokesman John Goshert (to the left in photo) expressed his enthusiasm for the contribution they had in the creation of the Armenian version of the book. He mentioned that the book would have a significant role to Armenian media. 

“It is wonderful that such ideas could be successfully implemented. It was a pleasant surprise when the first time I was addressed for translation. I am waiting for all the other meetings in Armenia with happiness,” said Prof. Gillmor who will deliver outstanding public speeches and lectures at a number of educational institutions in Yerevan and Gyumri.

The author focuses on transformation of the global media ecosystem, principles of reliable media production and also highlights active participation of every citizen in the creation of the media in the era of information overflow.

Suren Deheryan, president of the Journalists For the Future NGO, who is the editor of the Armenian version of the book Mediactive, said that the book is aimed at professionals, however it can be perceived also among a broad community of readers.

“All those who more or less use the Internet to disseminate and receive information, need to read this book to become more effective consumers and active media producers,” says Deheryan.

“Although the book was written in 2010, it contains tips and thoughts which will be relevant for long, and they should already be used today. I dare say that owners of both the traditional media outlets and the new media platforms may be more competitive if they follow these tips,” added the head of the organization.

“I think Dan Gillmor’s book is very important for our journalists, and I would recommend that they look through its contents which discuss the most significant principles of journalism as well as the ways on how to solve various journalistic issues under the new terms,” said Melikyan.

Translators of the book are Karine Darbinyan and Levon Baghdasaryan, and the proofreader is Taguhi Susliyan. 

Armenian version of the book conforms to the original one both in content and external design with only one supplement. Especially for the Armenian version, Dan Gillmor has added an Afterword where he looks back at the changes that have occurred over the last 5 years and summarizes the key theses of the book.

By a subscription principle the print version of the book will be distributed among universities and media outlets free of charge.

The book is not confined to the print version: it is also available online at Issuu.com and includes all the active links that exist in the original online version, thus enabling the reader to make transition to additional resources to obtain more information.
