On December 29 Dedoplistskaro District court will issue a verdict concerning journalist Ilia Martkoplishvili, who was left without a lawyer.
The complaint against the journalist was filed by member of Dedoplistskaro Sakrebulo (municipal council) Gela Tetrauli. He argues that Martkoplishvili had insulted his dignity and filed the complaint in the local court in October. Initially the Sakrebulo member demanded 10,000 GEL as moral compensation, but then he said that his main goal was not extraction of money from the journalist and demanded that the information about him be refuted by the Martkoplishvili.
According to the complaint, Ilia Martkoplishvili had groundlessly accused complainant of appropriating budget sums.
During the December 14 session the court didn’t allow Human Rights Center lawyer Lia Khuroshvili to attend the court session because she was late. She was supposed to represent Ilia Martkoplishvili in the courtroom. On December 24 Lia Khuroshvili cancelled her credentials.

“I wasn’t allowed to attend the questioning of the witnesses; I couldn’t study the case, that’s why I refused to act as the attorney. I didn’t take part in the contest of parties during today’s court session. In fact the judge has viewed the whole case and Martkoplishvili didn’t even have a lawyer” – Lia Khuroshvili told media.ge. She also noted that the journalist will have to hear the court verdict without a lawyer.
