The website of Sergei Parajanov house museum, http://parajanovmuseum.am, designed by ZOOM GRAPHICS received the grand prix of Armnet Awards web contest.

The project got most of the votes in all nominations, specifically for best technical solution.

The award for Design and Usability also went to ZOOM GRAPHICS for Bogossian Gardens, www.bg.am website of the Lovers’ Park.

http://www.rate.am designed by SFL to provide information about the currency exchange rate in various Armenian banks was named the Progress of the Year.

http://e-gov.am was announced the winner in Best Innovation nomination.

http://armcomedy.com , the blog of ArmComedy was praised for original and fresh content.

The international jury selected the winners out of 640 websites.

On November 16, when editors and journalists of more than a dozen of media outlets organized a protest action and demanded to release the chief editor of “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily (Armenian Times) Nikol Pashinyan, some thought that this action would soon be forgotten. However, this was only the beginning of dozens of events held one after another to protect Nikol.

In just two weeks collection of signatures with the same demand was started and protest actions were held in Yerevan by dozens of artists, culture activists, academicians and associate members of the National Academy of Sciences.

Demands for the release of the journalist were activated after his statement made in “Kosh” penitentiary according to which he was tortured  when sleeping at night on November 11 in jail by unknown people. Pashinyan’s statement was denied by the criminal department of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia. However, his defenders argued that it took place and that Pashinyan’s life is under threat.

A statement was disseminated also by the chairmеn of Writers’ Union of Armenia Levon Ananyan, of Theatre Workers’ Union of Armenia Hakob Ghazanchyan and of Architects’ Union of Armenia Mkrtich Minasyan.

The Committee to Protect Journalists is concerned about reports that Nikol Pashinian, an opposition activist and editor-in-chief of the independent daily Haykakan Zhamanak, was beaten in custody and moved into solitary confinement.

On Tuesday, authorities moved Pashinian into the strict-regime Artik prison. Pashinian’s lawyer, Vakhe Grigorian, told CPJ that the move was in retaliation for editorials Pashinian wrote from prison and published in Haykakan Zhamanak. He wrote about alleged corruption in the Armenian penitentiary system, Grigorian told CPJ.

Before Pashinian was moved to Artik, he was serving a four-year prison term in Kosh prison outside of Yerevan, for allegedly organizing mass riots spurred by flawed February 2008 presidential elections in Armenia. According to Grigorian, prison authorities had repeatedly ordered Pashinian to stop writing, but he continued. Shortly before he was moved to Artik, Pashinian said, he was physically attacked in his cell and beaten by two masked men on November 11, the Armenian service of the U.S. government-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

“If the authorities want to show a pragmatic approach and make a positive step before the elections, they should implement the European Court’s decision and return A1+ to the air,” says Ashot Melikyan, member of the Board of Trustees of the People’s TV Foundation and President of the Committee on Protection of the Freedom of Speech.

“If the authorities want Armenia to become a democratic country, they must create favourable conditions and give freedom to the sphere of television,” he said.

Over 14 000 people have made money transfers to the account of People’s TV Foundation which means 14,000 people have voted for the return of embattled A1+.

On December 16, the National Commission on Television and Radio will publish the results of a broadcasting competition.

According to Ashot Melikyan, A1+’s chances are conditioned by public activity and the society’s desire to have high-quality television.

53 people from USA and Canada, among whom there are scientists and science workers, teachers and economists and experts from different spheres, joined the protection of Nicol Pashinyan – the editor of the “Haykakan Zhamanak” (Armenian Time) newspaper. People of Armenian and non-Armenian origins sent a message to the Armenian authorities. The message says:

“We, Armenians living in the Diaspora and our non-Armenian friends, are deeply concerned in the imprisonment of Nikol Pashinyan, editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak (“Armenian Time”) daily in Armenia, and his treatment in jail. While Mr. Pashinyan’s voluntary surrender to law enforcement agencies should have been duly noted by the Armenian authorities, the veteran journalist has experienced coercion while behind bars.”

The head prosecutor of Iran Hulamhuseyn Mokhsani Ezhein reported on the arrest of 60 “restricted” web-site developers in Meshkhed, Fars and Tebriz.

According to “Media Forum”, Mokhsani Ezhein said that Iranian judicial system will take serious measures on “restricted” site creators and those who will co-operate with them: “The cases are now being investigated on. Some of the arrested are in prison and some are released on bail untill their court processes start. I think their trials will begin in several days.”

Mokhsuni Ezhein did not identify the arrested people and neither reported any date of arrest
