Վերջին ամիսներին ճանապարհային ոստիկանությունը հետիոտներին, մեղմ ասած, ակտիվորեն հորդորում է չխախտել երթևեկության կանոնները և փողոցը հատել թույլատրելի վայրերում կամ օգտվել գետնանցումներից: Ոստիկանությունը նաև հայտարարում է, որ հարյուրավոր հետիոտներ արդեն տուգանքի են ենթարկվել կանոները խախտելու համար:

Բայց արի ու տես, որ մարդիկ շարունակում են փողոցը հատել այնտեղ, որտեղ համարում են հարմար` անգամ այն վայրերում, որտեղ հարևանությամբ գետնանցում կա: Հարց է առաջանում, թե ինչո՞ւ չեն օգտվում գետնանցումներից,  չէ՞  որ  դրանք ստեղծվել են հենց անվտանգություն ապահովելու նպատակով:

Խոստովանեմ, որ ես նույնպես խուսափում եմ օգտվել գետնանցումներից` դրանք համարելով ոչ պակաս վտանգավոր, քան փողոց հատելը ոչ թույլատրելի հատվածներում:

Երևանում գետնանցումների ապահով լինելը առայժմ հարաբերական է, քանի որ դրանք ոմանց համար դարձել են բնական կարիքները հոգալու հարմարավետ վայր, որի հետևանքով գետնանցումներից գարշահոտ է գալիս, իսկ պատերին գրված հայհոյանքներն էլ իրենց հերթին են մեծ տհաճություն պատճառում: Նաև ոչ ոք չի կարող երաշխավորել, որ գետնանցումում խոշտանգման չես ենթարկվի հարբած թափառականի, գողի կամ ավազակի կողմից: Նման մեկ օրինակի մասին լուրը բավարար է, որ երբևէ չցանկանաս օգտվել դրանցից:

Մեր օրերում հաճախ է պատահում, որ ականատես կամ մասնակից ես լինում այնպիսի դեպքերի, որոնք տպավորվում են և երկար ժամանակ հանգիստ չեն տալիս քեզ:

Վերջերս մի դեպքի ականատես էլ ես դարձա, երբ սովորականի պես դասից տուն էի վերադարռնում և, ինչպես մյուս հետիոտները, ճանապարհը հատեցի նախատեսված վայրում:

Սակայն րոպեներ անց նույն հատվածում թույլատրելի արագությունը գերազանցած մի ավտոմեքենա վրաերթի ենթարկեց այդտեղ հայտնված փողոցային շանը:

Ավտոմեքենան անհետացավ, իսկ շան դիակը երեք օր շարունակ մնաց հետիոտնի համար նախատեսված անցումի հատվածում և խանգարում էր թե° երթևեկությանը, թե° մարդկանց` փողոցը հատելիս: Տիրում էր համատարած անտարբերություն: Ավտոմեքենաները շրջանցում էին այն, իսկ մարդիկ` հատելով փողոցը, մի պահ խղճալի հայացք էին գցում շան դիակի վրա և շարունակում:

Մի քանի օր առաջ առիթ ունեցա ներկա գտնվել Երևանի հայտնի հյուրանոցներից մեկի գործընկերների համար կազմակերպված ամենամյա միջոցառմանը: Ինչպես նշված էր հրավիրատոմսում բանկետի ընթացքում հյուրերը հնարավորություն կունենան ծանոթանալ գործնական նորություններին, քննարկել որոշ հարցեր, փորձի փոխանակում իրականացնել իրենց գործընկերների հետ ոչ պաշտոնական մթնոլորտում:

Ես առաջին անգամ էի ներկա գտնվում այդպիսի միջոցառմանը և համարում էի, որ սա լավ առիթ է ստանալ ինձ հուզող շատ հարցերի պատասխաններ. ինչպե՞ս են դիմավորում հյուրերին, ինչպե՞ս է զարդարված լինելու դահլիճը,  ի՞նչ երաժշտություն է հնչելու, ինչպես են հագնված լինելու հրավիրվածները, ի՞նչ ուտեստներ են զարդարելու սեղանները…

Ժամը 18:00-ին, ինչպես նշված էր հրավիրատոմսում, մտանք հյուրանոց, սակայն հյուրերից շատերը դեռ չէին ժամանել, իսկ ովքեր եկել էին, այդ թվում և երաժիշտները, նստած էին նախասրահում:

Շուտով եկան և մյուս հրավիրավիրվածները: Քիչ-քիչ դահլիճը լցվում էր: Մալխասն իր նվագախնբի հետ զբաղեցնում էր երաժիշտների տեղը, մատուցողները համեղ ուտեստներով զարդարում էին սեղանները , որոնք շուտով կորցնելու էին իրենց ողջ գեղեցկությունը:

Today marks “World Press Freedom Day. On the occasion, a group of young Hetq reporters took to the streets of Yerevan and distributed copies of the Hetq weekly newspaper.

While handing out copies, the reporters explained the importance of having a free press to passersby. Several government officials also took copies of the paper. Given the tradition of news outlets in Armenia being sponsored by this or that political leader or businessman, the first question by many who took the paper was, “whose paper is it?” They also were interested to know what issues the paper covers.

Larisa, one of the passersby, said, “I would really like for our press to be less partisan in the political sense and that it freely covers any issue out there. I must confess I don’t read the papers now because I already know what they will write. The same faces and views, there’s nothing new.”[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23:]]

Another passerby said that there is no free press in Armenia and that the papers have become the personal news outlets for officials.

Even local cops stopped our reporters on the street, asking what they were doing and why. The police were interested enough to ask what issues the paper covered and if the reporters had received permission from the Yerevan Municipality to publicly distribute papers.

May 3 is marked as World Press Freedom Day. The topic brought together specialists and experts of the field, who discussed the problems of the sphere and the situation in Armenia.

“Time of free press has not ripened in Armenia,” says President of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan.

In the given political atmosphere, Mr. Navasardyan anticipates new encroachments upon journalists.

“In fact, the more professional a journalist is, the more he/she is endangered,” added YPC President.

Editor-in-chief of “Aravot” daily Aram Abrahamyan quoted the report of Freedom House international organization, which stated that Armenia lacked free press since 2002, after the closure of A1+.

Mr. Abrahamyan reminded that no action had been filed in connection with violence against journalists during the parliamentary election of January 10. “A journalist cannot feel protected in a country which does not guarantee safety to its citizens,” said Mr. Abrahamyan.

Shushan Doydoyan, Director of the Freedom of Information Center, emphasized the level of journalists’ legal awareness. “Journalists must be well aware of their rights and champion them. They must appeal to courts and make lawbreakers accountable,” she said.

Mr. Abrahamyan reminded A1+’s attempts to restore the company’s rights.

Nowadays it is not difficult to find any information about the sexual life due to the Internet, TV programs and films. Besides there is a growing tendency and even a 10-year-old kid knows a lot about the sexual life or how babies are born.

I saw how babies are born on TV and asked my mum, she said it is not time for me to know but I guess I already know about,” says 10-year-old Mary from Tbilisi.

While there is a stereotype among the people in Georgia that the society doesn’t want to have sexual health classes at schools, the statistics show the opposite.

According to the last survey of National Democratic Institute (NDI) conducted in 2007, more than 70% of the Georgian population wants to have health education classes, including information related to sexual health and family formation at schools. There is a percentage disagreement in the capital, which is higher more than twice from that of rural areas of Georgia welcoming the idea of having such kind of classes at schools.

On March 4 Zura Khachikadze turned 18 years old, an age he has been waiting to experience his right of voting. He knows well that on May 30 Tbilisi residents are going to elect a mayor and he is ready to go to the polls.

“Every time when we had elections in Tbilisi I wanted to vote, because I am sure we can change the things, if we really want, but I couldn’t because of my age. Now I can do that. I have my favourite candidate and I’m going to support him, though I’m not a member of any party,” says the optimistic boy. But not everyone thinks as Zura does.

Ana Sardanadze is a 19-year-old student at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, and she knows that an election will be held in May, but she doesn’t know the exact date, and not sure she will vote.

“Now I’m working on a very important painting, I don’t have time to pay attention to such things,” she says. “ I hope our parties will organize some meetings to inform people about their projects before elections, though I don’t believe the elections are going to be fair.”

Every day, Giorgi, 17, a guy in blue jacket and hat walks with his poodle along the street Vazha Pshavela in Tbilisi. Daizy is one year old and has white shiny hair. She can stand on its two paws. Giorgi says it’s his grandma’s poodle, but she died recently and he decided to look after Daizy. Giorgi spends much time with the dog and says it’s very difficult to take care of dogs, especially when keeping themat home.

“My mom doesn’t like dogs, she hates wool and says that one day I will get some kind of disease, because I spend much time with Daizy, though once a year I take her to the clinic and always wash my hands after play with her. I think that’s enough,” says Giorgi with a smile on his face.

Grigori Zaranyan, a veterinary of the “ZooPlaza” clinic is sure that once a year is not enough, because even if the dog is vaccinated, it doesn’t mean it is safe from infecting more than 200 diseases which can be passed from pets to people.

The veterinaries say that dogs should be vaccinated up to six months, then before appearance of their first fangs they should be vaccinated against rabies.The most common infection among dogs is meshelioz, when the dog gets thinner and loses its hair in a short  time. It’s deadly and very often veterinaries have to strew them.

April 15-16, Tbilisi will host a conference entitled “Challenges for media freedom in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova an Ukraine”.

The conference is oorganized by the Council of Europe in the framework of the 2009-2010 Swiss chairmanship of its Committee of Ministers.

The conference will address current problems in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine with regard to the safety and protection of journalists, the threats to freedom of expression and the challenges to this freedom brought by new technologies.

The key aim of the event is to formulate concrete recommendations for promoting freedom of expression and information in these states in line with Council of Europe standards and recommendations.

Dunja Mijatovic, recently appointed OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, and William Horsley, Chairman of the UK section and Media Freedom Representative of the Association of European Journalists, will be among the key speakers. The event will bring together government representatives, parliamentarians, media professionals and representatives of NGOs.

The U.S. Embassy in Armenia publicly honored on Wednesday a young Armenian activist controversially prosecuted after publicizing alleged sexual and other abuse at a Yerevan boarding school. Mariam Sukhudian, a leader of the environment protection group SOS Teghut, received the Women of Courage Award from Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch at a high-profile ceremony attended by Armenian politicians, civic activists and other public figures. Speaking at the ceremony, Yovanovitch confirmed that the award is an appreciation of Sukhudian’s work at the public school for children with special needs located in Yerevan’s southern Nubarashen suburb.

“When she arrived at Nubarashen Special School Number 11 and found neglect and abuse of children in its care, she acted to stop it … not for her own benefit, but for justice and the welfare of all children in Armenia,” said the ambassador. A separate statement by the Embassy lauded the activist’s “courage” and “determination to act in order to right a wrong, in spite of the personal sacrifices it entailed.” Sukhudian, 30, was among about a dozen young people who worked as volunteers at the boarding school in April-June 2008.
